The Best Vintage Clothes Shopping in Tasmania

By Josie Rozenberg-Clarke

Vintage clothes shopping is a sport for lovers of nostalgia, sustainability and a bargain – and Tasmania has plenty of stacked second-hand stores to tackle. From op shops to retro havens to pre-loved designer fashion, here’s where to go digging for a throwback treasure.

THE FINDERS

There’s nothing worse than second-hand stuff at inflated prices, and a visit to The Finders won’t run that risk. This popular Hobart vintage clothes shop is stocked full of fabulous pre-loved pieces at a reasonable price point, with a wide range of sizes. An added bonus? Its welcoming vibe and friendly, helpful staff.

ROLLIN’ PREOWNED AND THRIFT

Rollin’ is heavy on the 90s and Y2K nostalgia, overflowing with vintage tees, heaps of denim, oversized button-up shirts, and bulk corduroy. A hidden gem tucked away near Hobart’s inner-city car dealerships, guys and gals are guaranteed to roll out of here with a bargain.

TASSIE TWOS VINTAGE

Tassie Twos might just be the best vintage clothes shop in Launceston. This female-owned and operated store is full of carefully curated goodies – think 90s fluoro ski parkas and sought-after Coogi knits – and loved by locals and visitors alike.

THE DUSTY MERMAID

If you’re heading out of Hobart on your way to Port Arthur, make sure to leave enough time for a pit stop at The Dusty Mermaid. This quirky little shop on the Arthur Highway is well worth a visit, with lots of vintage clothes and other trinkets to scratch that thrifting itch.

HOBART CITY MISSION

If you’re a bargain hunter when it comes to vintage clothes shopping, you’ll know that not all op shops are created equal. One of Hobart’s standouts is City Mission, with eight stores in the area. The Moonah megastore is a must-visit, especially on a “Fill a Bag for $5” day. Shop sustainably and give your money to a good cause – it’s a win-win.

BRUCE

If you’re looking for higher-end pieces on your hunt for pre-loved clothes in Hobart, head to Bruce. Perfectly curated racks of designer brands will greet you, but don’t be put off by big names and minimalist decor – bargains are to be had. A $1,200 Zimmermann skirt in mint condition for $150? This writer found that at Bruce!

THE PRELOVED MARKET

Time-poor? Instead of trawling Hobart’s many vintage clothes shops for days, hit up The Preloved Market, held monthly in Moonah. There’s loads of stalls from vintage shops, as well as locals offloading their wardrobes, so you’ll find a massive variety of styles and sizes.
