Tasmania’s Most Romantic Stays

By Josie Rozenberg-Clarke

From intimate homes to secluded shacks, plan a romantic escape for two with these lush Tasmanian retreats.

For peak get-away-from-it-all vibes, you can’t beat a romantic retreat in wild, beautiful lutruwita/Tasmania. Explore the endless wilderness by day, and cosy up with a glass of Tassie pinot noir by night (bonus points if it’s sipped in an outdoor hot tub). As for leaving? You simply won’t want to.

DWARF COTTAGE, FLINDERS ISLAND

Up your seclusion game by staying on an island within an island - Flinders Island, to be specific. Located off the north-east coast of Tassie, it’s known for dairy farms and stunning, untouched beaches. Dwarf Cottage is located on farmland in Killiecrankie, just a short drive to the famously photogenic Killiecrankie Beach. With luxe linens on the queen bed, an outdoor fire pit and endless mountain views, Dwarf Cottage is a perfectly intimate space for your romantic retreat.

PUMPHOUSE POINT, LAKE ST CLAIR

This 1930s pumphouse has been cleverly re-appropriated into Pumphouse Point, a 19-room adults-only accommodation right on the iconic Lake St Clair in Tasmania’s north. Floor to ceiling windows take in the full scope of this glacial lake and, while you will likely encounter other guests, there’s plenty of time and space for you to venture out on your own. Grab the oars and head out for a romantic row, or just take a picnic lunch into nature.

AERIE RETREAT, TINDERBOX

It’s just 30 minutes drive from Hobart, but you’ll feel like you’re at the end of the earth at Aerie Retreat. On the edge of the Tinderbox peninsula, this purpose-built one-bedroom space takes advantage of its bushland setting – surrounded by trees, it’s completely private and self-contained. You’ll have exclusive access to the “wilderness deck”, complete with a freshly-filled timber hot tub, wood-fired sauna, fire pit and views across the D'Entrecasteaux Channel to Bruny Island. The hot tub is so relaxing, you’ll seriously consider sleeping in it.

BRUNY ISLAND HIDEAWAY, ALONNAH

A trip to Bruny Island is a must on any Tassie holiday, and extending your visit beyond a quick day trip will truly make the most of this magical spot. Bruny Island Hideaway is the perfect romantic retreat in which to unwind after a long day of exploring. An off-grid tiny home set on 99 acres of pure wilderness, the only neighbours you’ll hear will be the birds. After tackling some of Bruny’s famous walks, take a long soak in the outdoor bath with only the trees as your witness.
