Cosy up at the best tiny home stays in tasmania

By Josie Rozenberg-Clarke

Go off-grid and choose solitude for your next island getaway.

For an intimate weekender or getaway, a one-bedroom, ultra-private tiny home is the ideal destination. Dotted all around Tasmania, purpose-built cabins, studios and small revamped shacks lie nestled in bushland or on secluded waterfronts, just waiting for you to check in and switch off. Here are some of Tassie’s best tiny home stays to put on your wishlist.

NAIVASHA TINY HOUSE, REEDY MARSH

Around 40 minutes’ drive west of Launceston, you’ll find Naivasha Tiny House, artisan-built from reclaimed cedar and perched in a private bush clearing. As cosy as it is inside, the sweeping countryside views and al fresco wood-fired hot tub might have you enjoying the great outdoors for most of your stay.

CNTNR, Upper Scamander

Owned by surfer Dion Agius, CNTNR is actually two tiny houses - CNTNR 1.0 and CNTNR 2.0 - on Tassie’s stunning east coast. Both made out of converted 40-foot shipping containers, you’ll love the achingly cool decor, private yards with wilderness views, fire pits and access to the peaceful Scamander River.

THE HIDE, BRUNY ISLAND

The Hide is completely private, with forest on three sides and waterfront on the other. Spend the day exploring iconic Bruny Island from the home’s central location in Alonnah, then soak in the bath next to floor-to-ceiling windows and enjoy the most breathtaking sunset you could ask for. Wine and a good book come highly recommended.

TINY GEORGE, DULCOT

Only 25 minutes from Hobart and six minutes from historic Richmond, Tiny George is a cabin nestled in the famous Coal River Valley food and wine region. With a comfy bed in its mezzanine bedroom, bush views out of every window, a cushy leather couch and wood fire, this small space is big on cosy.

THE STAND ALONE, EAGLEHAWK NECK

The gateway to the beautiful Tasman Peninsula, Eaglehawk Neck is also home to The Stand Alone, an intimate cabin surrounded by bushland. The outdoor shower, bath and hammock invite peak relaxation vibes, and nearby Lufra Cove beach is a peaceful spot to swim, snorkel, fish, rockhop or just soak up some vitamin D.

THE BARN, HOBART

The outlier to these secluded spaces, The Barn is situated right in Hobart’s CBD – but step inside and you’ll find it has major tiny house energy with its smart use of a cosy, small space. Owned by two architects, their award-winning conversion of an original 1820s sandstone barn is within walking distance of loads of Hobart’s best restaurants and bars, as well as the historic Salamanca and Battery Point districts.
